Ethan's appointment was at 11:30 this morning. The Doctor informed us exactly what we already knew. She proclaimed multiple times that he was "perfect" and "fabulous." Well duh :)
The great news is that he's gained lots of weight already. He weighed in at 10 lbs 8 oz, which is more than a pound over his birth weight. The boobie milk is working! His length measurement was 21 inches (it was 20 at his first appointment) so he's grown in length too.
This morning when we got up, Ethan's eye was all runny and gooey but Dr. Bowen said it's just a plugged tear duct and should clear up on its own. That was a relief to hear because I was worried that he was getting a cold or something. I'd have felt terrible.
After Ethan's appointment, he and I went to my 1:30 appointment. It was our first trip alone. All in all it went pretty well, but the midwife's office was unusually busy and I waited over an hour. That's never happened before, and it was a bad time for a first. Ethan got incredibly cranky. I had to feed him in the waiting room and change his diaper too. (Side question - is it inappropriate to change the baby in the waiting room on the chair beside you?) There was this cute little boy, probably about 4 or 5, who came over and watched the diaper change and talked to me about it. His name was Fezzi or something like that. I finally got the baby to sleep a few minutes before they called me back which was a good thing. I was nearly in tears because he is so rarely fussy and I couldn't help him. I was tempted to just leave and try again another day.
My visit with Ann was fine. She just talked to me about how I was doing and we discused recovery, the baby and the birth. It was helpful to talk it over with her, even though she hadn't been there. Little man woke up and was pretty fussy throughout the visit so it was hard to really keep my train of thought.
I weighed 160lbs, which is about 30 pounds more than I weighed when I got pregnant. I've definitely got some work to do when January gets here.
As soon as we were out of the office and changed his diaper again, Mr. Ethan was fine. He cried while we waited for the valet to get the car, but fell asleep as soon as we were safely inside and on our way home. Poor guy, I guess we just overstimulated him.
So, the big day is over and now Ethan is taking a long nap. I may wake him to nurse in a little while, but for now I think he deserves to sleep.

It sounds like your milk is doing a great job!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry, it is hard to be out and about at only 2 weeks, for both mom and baby! Yes, it is fine to have to change a baby in a waiting room! Sometimes you do what you have to and forget what is right nor not anymore!
